CHICAGO, Jan. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Cars.com reports today that December's Average Transaction Price (ATP) for new light-vehicle sales in the United States was $31,550, up 3.6 percent ($1,105) from November, and 5.2 percent ($1,562) year-over-year.
"Thanks to the healthy sales performance of luxury vehicles as well as SUVs and trucks, industry Average Transaction Price reached its highest point of the year this month at $31,550," said Jesse Toprak, chief analyst at Cars.com. "Incentives are only up $100 per unit while ATPs are up over $1,500 per unit year-over-year, indicating higher overall profitability for the automakers - everything else being equal."
Incentive spending in December is projected to decrease 1.1 percent ($-32) from last month and increase 3.5 percent ($100) from December 2013. The average incentive amount for light-vehicles this month is forecasted to be $2,860.
