The CIOs of several high profile organizations in Australia will present their stories of digital transformation and leadership at the upcoming Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2015 on the Gold Coast, Australia.

In these peer insight sessions presented by CIOs, for CIOs, conference delegates will hear real-life examples of how to rise to the challenge of digital disruption that is facing every organization in every industry. CIO Stories sessions will include:

1) Dr. Peter Lawrence, Chief Information Officer, Australian Department of Defence: How to Transform a Large IT Organization and Be Digitally Aware

With some 100,000 users, the Department of Defence has one of Australia's largest ICT environments. Yet even large organizations need to change in response to the unstoppable rise of digital business. In an onstage interview, Dr. Lawrence will explore the leadership challenges of transforming a large IT organization and making it more digital aware. He will share insights into effective leadership and highlight how innovation is being fostered within the Department of Defence as a lesson for other CIOs facing similar challenges in their enterprises.

2) Patrick Maes, CTO and GM Strategy & Planning, Global Technology Services and Operations (GTSO) Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ): Digitization is More Than Skin Deep

In this presentation, Mr. Maes will share his experiences gained implementing digital business in a large, complex and regulated business. He will describe his four 'core pillars' of effective digital strategy implementation.

3) David Banger, Chief Information Officer, John Holland: The Digital CIO Journey - Balancing Innovation and Cost Optimization

Mr. Banger will discuss how John Holland has digitized processes through practical and creative technology, resulting in the successful implementation of new work practices. His entertaining personal account follows how a business technologist has taken a range of approaches from different industries to a market entirely new to him, and defined the beginning of the organization's digital journey. Mr. Banger will help delegates to understand why vendor relationships may be the key to qualifying technology in tomorrow's market and to consider how operational technologies will transform everything.

4) William Confalonieri, Chief Digital Officer, CIO and Vice-President, Deakin University: The Quest for the Digital Frontier

Deakin University has a very ambitious digital agenda. Artificial Intelligence, immersive reality, internet of things, robots, hyper-social and personal hubs, cloud platforms and a number of bleeding edge innovations are significantly transforming stakeholder expectations and experiences. The reborn IT function serves as an innovation engine - strategic, agile, hyperaware, predictive, and bold - with a focus primarily on orchestrating complex digital ecosystems to deliver premium experiences to customers. Mr. Colfalonieri says it is not just about technology. Digital leadership must establish the right combination of vision, governance, people, behaviors, processes, culture, operational models, and technology to succeed.
