Zapolyarny: The Kola MMC Concentrator will receive a new automated process control system. The existing system will be replaced due to the obsolescence of its hardware and the discontinued production of its spare parts, which increases the likelihood of emergencies.

The control system is modernized in stages. The pulp pump station received modern equipment in late 2016. At present, work is underway to upgrade the control system of three flotation sections. The next stage is improvements to the control system of the grinding process, and final stage is the integration of local control systems into one information system of the Concentrator.
The hardware platform of the new system uses Siemens-made programmable logic controllers, while information display software for workstation operators is Wonderware System Platform. The modernization of the system is scheduled for completion before the end of 2018.

When completed, the project will enable the Company to enhance the reliability of the Concentrator's production process and, if process algorithms need to be changed, will provide greater flexibility. The modernization will also make it possible to continue the development of the control system for at least 10 years due to the increased number of data signals, the possibility of buying spare parts, and technical support from the hardware and software producers.
