This week, GoPro founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman returned to Australia for the first time since the surf trip in 2002 that started it all. That year, he traveled Down Under with a very rough early prototype of the original 35mm HERO camera, and it was his time exploring and surfing the coasts of Oz that really inspired Woodman and the evolution of what would become the GoPro of today.
So as you can imagine, it was a tremendous honor for Woodman when he received an invite from the Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, to join him at end of week for one of his favorite early morning activities: a sunrise paddle. Without hesitation, Woodman met Prime Minister Turnbull on a quiet shoreline of the Sydney Harbor and almost immediately the two took to the water to enjoy the country that means much to both, leaving politics, business and stress behind, if only for a short time.
Turnbull and his office are quite familiar with GoPro, as they are known to use them to document the PM's travels and public endeavors. The office does well to engage the public, frequently updating their social channels, and keeping the citizens of Australian in the know. You can check out some video moments on the Prime Minister's Facebook page.
Who knew that driving a Toyota panel van around the coast of Australia with a prototype and a vision back in 2002 would eventually lead to a paddle with the Prime Minister of the Nation?
Have a dream. Follow it. You may just see it take you farther than you'd ever imagined.
