Halifax has returned to Scotland as an independent brand for the first time in a decade, opening a flagship branch in Edinburgh's world-famous Princes Street. Branches have also been launched in Glasgow and in Aberdeen.

131-133 Princes Street is the second location which Havelock Europa has fitted out for Halifax, employing the new branch design concept: "Challenger Digital".

Located in a street traditionally dominated by retail, in listed buildings at the heart of the city's designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, Planning challenges were to be expected.  These were overcome, with a Change of Use granted to BAM Properties for the premises, previously occupied by retailer GAP, which had lain empty for more than three years.  Halifax now occupies the ground floor and a new hospitality space has been created on the upper floors.

Halifax has invested heavily to provide customers with a high quality, state-of-the-art, retail banking experience.  The interactive environment includes digital displays and wifi capability, with iPads available for customers to use to securely organise their accounts online.

The new branch creates 33 jobs and has returned a landmark building to its former glory  The project was delivered on time, within budget and achieved the Halifax 'Flawless' criteria.

"Havelock Europa did an amazing job. We just can't wait to open our doors and show this off to our new customers."  Esther Clark, Branch Manager, Halifax, Princes Street (speaking in advance of the opening)
