Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson's contribution to the World Seafood Congress

The World Seafood Congress took place in the Harpa Conference and Concert Hall between the 11th and 13th of September, with its focus on growth in the blue bioeconomy, a reference to the importance of the oceans where there are opportunities in terms of growth, innovation, research and marketing, with the spotlight on food security, nutritional security, sustainability and food quality.

The conference was held by Matís and this is the first time that this event has taken place in the Nordic region. Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson spoke about investment in fishing and processing, which included a short footage from a documentary film about the company's ex trawler Ásbjörn, as well as footage that was shot on board Engey during its third trip in early September.

'Fleet renewal is of great importance to the company, as this reduces maintenance costs, increases the quality of catches, and represents huge improvements in crew conditions and working facilites,' Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson said, commenting that Engey is without doubt Iceland's most technologically advanced fishing vessel.

The two videos show clearly how technological advances have made working on board easier, reducing the strain on the crew as well as minimising the risk of accidents. The working conditions on board Engey, which include the unmanned automated hold and the Sub-Chilling™ system from Skaginn, and a great improvement compared to those on board Ásbjörn.
