ÏÔÅparticipates in the UNIFYresearch project

- Envisioning the unification of cloud computing and carrier networks

- User experience improving, flexibility and new services development

Athens, November 24th2014

OTEtakes part in the innovative UNIFY research project, aiming to build a new architecture that enables virtualization of carrier networks and their integration with cloud computingtechnologies. This new infrastructure will help improve the experience of end users, support more and higher quality services as well as significantly reduce operational costs.

It is the first time that the unification of networkinfrastructure and data centersis attempted at research level, delivering multiple advantages in terms of innovation and technological leadership. UNIFY's architecture enables flexible network management through software, by reducing significantly the need for costly and time-consuming hardware installations, configurations, upgrades, monitoring and restoration activities. At the same time, it allows for the provision of innovative services for consumers and businesses.

In the framework of the Project, OTE participates in the identification and definition of the use cases, the technical requirements and specifications of the system, while leading the overall evaluation of the solution, both in laboratory environment and through field trials. Furthermore, OTE will help enhance the results of the research project, as well as develop the relevant business model.

The partners of theUNIFYProject are the companies Ericsson Hungary (project coordinator), BISDN (Germany), Deutsche Telekom AG (Germany), EICT GmbH (Germany), Ericsson AB (Sweden), Intel Corporation (Belgium), Telecom Italia (Italy), Travelping (Germany), the research institutes Acreo (Sweden), iMinds (Belgium), SICS (Sweden), and the universities Budapest University of Technology and Economics (Hungary), Universidad del Pais Vasco (Spain), Politecnico di Torino (Italy), and Technische Universitaet Berlin (Germany). The project is co-funded by the EU through the 7th Framework Programme and it has a total duration of 30 months.

OTE Groupis a pioneer in technological developments and it is by far the largest investor in telecommunications infrastructure in Greece. Since the beginning of 2014, OTE and COSMOTE have participated in 22innovative technological researchprojects, while OTE's New Technologies Laboratories test new technologies and telecommunications equipment of the future. OTE's engagement in the UNIFY project is consistent with its strategy, in which OTE places the customer and his needs at the core of its business and cares for the ongoing enhancement of its network and the provided services.
