- More than 1,600 participants in the 'Access to the Digital World' program

- Program expanded to the Municipality of Agioi Anargyroi

For yet another year, COSMOTE offers older people the opportunity to come closer to the world of technology via the 'Access to the Digital World' program. More than 1,600 participants over 50 years old have already attended the program implemented for the fourth consecutive year by the NGO '50plus Greece' in collaboration with the Municipalities of Ilioupoli and Agios Dimitrios. In addition, in 2016 the program will also be implemented in the Municipality of Agioi Anargyroi in the Attica Prefecture.

The 'Access to the Digital World' program includes free lessons in the use of personal computers and Internet surfing, courses dedicated to touch-screen technologies with smartphones and tablets, as well as seminars on the use of Skype and social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.). COSMOTE is providing all the necessary equipment for the implementation of the program, such as PC terminals, smartphones and tablets, while also fully covering the cost of the educational staff and undertaking the technical support.

Upon the occasion of the beginning of the course for the new year, Ms Deppie Tzimea, Executive Director of OTE Group Corporate Communications, stated: 'There is no age limit in the need for communication and the thirst for knowledge. This is proved by the wide participation of people over 50 at a program offering them the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the unlimited potential of technology and the use of it in their everyday life. The greatest satisfaction for us is the smile on the faces of these people when they are talking via Skype to relatives abroad or sending e-mails to their children living in another city'.

At their recent graduation ceremony, participants from the Municipalities of Ilioupoli and Agios Dimitrios said enthusiastically: '… the program is great, it offers older people the opportunity to learn a few new things, to live in the modern world'; 'I learned to use social media, I participate in various events, and this way I feel younger'; '… we feel young, active and able to offer as much as possible'; 'I use the Internet to access public services from the comfort of my own home without troubling myself in queues', they characteristically mentioned.

The 'Access to the Digital World' is part of the COSMOTE Corporate Social Responsibility activities to combat the digital gap and support education and innovation.
