Shin-Kobe Electric Machinery's Sales, Business Planning, and Research & Development Operations to be Transferred and Integrated into Hitachi Chemical's Operations - Move Expected to Maximize Synergies on Both Sides, and further Accelerate the Strengthening and Expansion of Overall Group Businesses -
Hitachi Chemical Co., Ltd. (Head Office: TOKYO; President and CEO: Kazuyuki Tanaka ; hereinafter referred to as "Hitachi Chemical") and Shin-Kobe Electric Machinery Co., Ltd. (Head Office: TOKYO; Representative Director and President: Shigeru Ito; hereinafter referred to as "Shin-Kobe") have made a decision to transfer and integrate Shin-Kobe's sales, business planning, and research & development operations into Hitachi Chemical on April 1. In this way, Shin-Kobe will become a manufacturing company specializing in the product development and design functions.
1. Purpose
The Hitachi Chemical Group has aggressively promoted the supply of optimal solutions for customers, centering on four business areas with high growth potential where the company enjoys technological prowess, namely "Telecommunications & displays", "Environment & energy", "Life sciences", and "Automobiles & transportation infrastructure". As a part of this strategy, Hitachi Chemical has made Shin-Kobe a wholly-owned subsidiary last year, and undertaken to further strengthen its business.
Following a study of ways to maximize the synergies of the two companies, it has been determined that Shin-Kobe will transfer the following business areas and activities to Hitachi Chemical, which will then be integrated into the latter's operations: sales, business planning, and research & development operations for industrial batteries and devices, automotive batteries, forklifts batteries, capacitors, evaporated films, molded plastics, laminated sheets for PCBs and electronic insulation, and sheet-formed products. The following benefits are expected to result:
1) Hitachi Chemical Group has many overseas manufacturing and sales offices. By using this network to rapidly establish sales and technical service as well as other systems at foreign locations, it will be possible to meet the various needs of customers conducting business globally.
2) By utilizing Hitachi Chemical's wide range of fundamental technology including materials technology to accelerate the integrated businesses to enhance existing products' properties and develop new products, it will be possible to further strengthen the capability to propose solutions meeting the wide-ranging needs of customers.
3) Shin-Kobe will become a manufacturing company specializing in the product development and design functions, and will, as a company with large responsibility for managing one of the Hitachi Chemical Group core businesses, be able to strengthen product development and system engineering capabilities based on manufacturing.
