HOCHTIEF fully banks on energy, major cities and transportation in Australia, too
New contracts in the Group's three strategic growth fields worth a combined total of EUR 673 million
HOCHTIEF systematically paves the way for its three strategic
growth areas in Down Under, too: Subsidiary Leighton secured
new contracts worth a combined total of EUR 672.9 million in
all three segments - energy infrastructure, major cities and
transportation infrastructure - in rapid succession. Of this,
EUR 356.2 million is attributable to a further contract for
Thiess for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) project of Chevron
off Australia's west coast. John Holland
will build roads and railway links to a port in Western
Australia for EUR 79.2 million. Telecommunications subsidiary
Visionstream is to deliver a broadband network for the island
of Tasmania for EUR 237.5 million.
For Thiess, this already is the fourth contract on the
Wheatstone project of Chevron: The energy giant is currently
constructing a natural gas production facility off the west
coast of Australia together with partners such as Shell. The
actual LNG plant is being constructed onshore, some 12
kilometers from Onslow. In connection with the construction
works for this facility, Thiess will undertake preparatory
earthworks (bulk removal etc.) for the plant, storm water
drainage system and access roads. After completion of the
initial phase, up to 8.9 million tons of liquefied natural
gas will be produced annually. Works on the plant will start
in the fourth quarter of 2012 and are scheduled for
completion in early 2014. On total, Thiess has already been
awarded contracts worth more than EUR 1.01 billion on the
Wheatstone project. Together with two other contracts awarded
to Leighton subsidiary John Holland, Leighton thus achieved a
total contract value of EUR 1.49 billion for the project.
John Holland will build or expand various access routes for
Esperance Port in Western Australia: The Leighton subsidiary
will, for example, realign 1.8 kilometers of road leading
into the port. The assignment also includes the diversion of
1.3 kilometers of existing railway to the port, and
construction of two bridges. John Holland will start work in
mid-2012, with completion expected by the end of 2013.
Visionstream, the telecommunications subsidiary of Leighton
Contractors, will build up a broadband network for the
Australian island of Tasmania over a period of four years.
Services comprise, among others, installation of the network
cable including all related
