• The company is the first in the Ibex 35 to join this initiative, which will help create stable, quality jobs for young people
  • The Pegasus project coordinated by this institution and supported by IBERDROLA aims to provide solutions to the problem of joblessness and precarious employment among young people

Via the Fundación Novia Salcedo, IBERDROLA has joined the Pegasus programme in an agreement signed today in Bilbao. The goal of this programme coordinated by the foundation is to place youth employment on the Global Human Development Agenda, by campaigning for the General Assembly of the United Nations to proclaim the 2016-2025 period as the Youth Unemployment Decade.

IBERDROLA is the first major Ibex 35 company to support this initiative, which aims to use the Youth Employment Decade as n opportunity to boost economic and social transformation in organisations and countries, by seeking consensual solutions for the situation of joblessness and precarious employment affecting young people all over the world.

The Chairman of IBERDROLA, Ignacio Galán, declared that "IBERDROLA's support for this initiative should be viewed in the wider context of our commitment towards creating quality, lasting employment and offering people training and development: because of the pull effect exerted by IBERDROLA, we provide employment to a total of over 350,000 people worldwide".

Under the terms of this agreement, which will initially continue until late 2017, IBERDROLA will contribute its experience to give the Pegasus project the tools to ensure that young people joining the job market have access to the information they need to design the various dimensions of their career plan.

About Fundación Novia Salcedo

In its 2014 Report, the Fundación Novia Salcedo highlighted that 473 young people under the age of 32 had secured jobs after completing their training and probationary periods in companies that have partnerships with the foundation.

In order to achieve this, the foundation set up its hands-on training programme in companies based in the Basque Country and abroad. A total of 865 people under the age of 32 with Bachelor's or higher qualifications took part. This amounted to 92 contracts and 107 traineeships more than in 2013, an increase of 12%.

Some 753 young people also joined companies via traineeships (20% in companies based abroad), 510 received training in new emerging areas and 3,500 received support from the foundation when searching for their first jobs. The training is not only organised on a local or national level. The Fundación Novia Salcedo now has collaboration agreements in place with over 510 companies on its professional traineeships scheme.

The scholarship fund allocated to providing hands-on training to young people in companies is worth €5 million, the highest amount so far despite the difficult crisis situation.
