2014FY IHI Completes AP1000® Containment Vessel Fabrication and Shipment for U.S. Nuclear Power Plants

March 30, 2015

Tokyo, March 30, 2015 - IHI Corporation ("IHI") has completed the fabrication and shipment of four containment vessels for AP1000®(*) nuclear power plants that are being delivered in the United States by Westinghouse Electric Company LLC. ("Westinghouse"). The containment vessel contracts were awarded in 2009 and the equipment was fabricated at IHI Yokohama Works in Japan. Shipments began in August 2010, with the final shipment in February 2015.

In celebration of the final shipment, a completion ceremony was held with Westinghouse at the Yokohama Works.

The containment vessels will house primary equipment such as steam generators and the reactor vessel inside the nuclear island, and they also have an important nuclear safety protection function. Each vessel is more than 40 meters in diameter, more than 66 meters high and weighs approximately 3,800 tons. The vessels will be installed in the following AP1000 plants, which are 1,100 megawatt pressurized water reactors;

・Vogtle Electric Generating Plant Units 3&4
to be operated by Southern Nuclear and majority owned by Georgia Power Company, Georgia, U.S.
・V.C. Summer Nuclear Station Units 2&3
to be operated by South Carolina Electric & Gas Company owned by SCANA Corporation, South Carolina, U.S. State-owned utility Santee Cooper is a co-owner of the plants.

In 2006, IHI became a shareholder of Westinghouse and expanded the IHI business in the pressurized water reactor ("PWR") market. IHI has exported PWR equipment to the U.S. and China, applying the expertise and knowledge gained from its experience with boiling water reactors.

Demand for nuclear energy projects is expected to increase as climate change and energy security become key issues in society. Based on its knowledge and nuclear product and service technologies, IHI will be actively involved in these projects to realize safe nuclear energy, along with stable energy supplies and reduced carbon emissions in the world.
