After many years of successful collaboration, the latest project will involve deploying Ingenico's next-generation point-of-sale (POS) platform, Axium, to the existing fleet of Ingenico terminals in Lottomatica's retail locations.

As part of Lottomatica's ongoing digital transformation strategy to update the technology in its current 80,000 point of service locations, Ingenico was charged to roll out a tablet-based integrated POS solution to replace the countertop POS systems in over 20,000 Lottomatica locations in 2017. Following this success, Lottomatica was convinced that an Android-based payment solution merging app-based business services and secure payment perfectly supported its business model, which is based on a diversified network of tobacco shops, bars, lottery shops, and newsstands. That is why Lottomatica expressed interest in rolling out a pilot phase on the Axium platform in July 2018.

Axium combines the benefits of an open Android environment with the security and reliability of the Telium Tetra operating system. The platform allows merchants to download apps from shared and private marketplaces, so POS devices can be more multi-functional than ever. From cloud backup and remote management to customized apps bringing new business services to customers - all on an easy-to-use, secure Android tablet - it represents a tremendous leap forward for small-scale commerce.

Axium will run Lottomatica's own customized app-based services, and will support secure cashless payments (e.g., smart cards, magstripe, contactless cards, smartphones, QR codes, etc.). This is set to boost revenue, diversify income streams, and enhance the consumer experience.
