Inmarsat is the world's No. 1 of mobile communication services (telephone, video, Internet, etc.) via satellite, intended primarily for the maritime, aeronautical, defense, media, and energy sectors. The group also offers space aboard its satellites. Sales break down by activity as follows:
- voice and data transmission (55.8%): maritime transmissions (37.4% of net sales), land transmissions (15.8%), aeronautical transmissions (10.4%) and other (36.4%);
- broadband services (44.2%).
At the end of 2011, the group owned 11 geostationary satellites.
Net sales break down geographically as follows: Europe (36.2%), North America (44.7%), Asia/Pacific (15%) and other (4.1%).
