A strategic, proven provider of integrated security solutions to the U.S. federal government, McAfee has announced that its McAfee Application Control and McAfee Change Control have been added to the U.S. Department of Defense Unified Capabilities Approved Products List (UC APL). McAfee Application and Change Control are the first and only whitelisting technologies to achieve this certification that are managed by McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator software, the centralized administration management platform used by DISA's Host Based Security System.

UC APL is a list of security vendors and products that have met the extremely stringent criteria the US DoD sets for its providers. To achieve approval for UC APL, among other things a company must undergo an extensive series of tests against criteria known as the Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIGs). The U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) evaluated, tested and certified the company's whitelisting technology for the new unified DoD certification.

The McAfee Application Control and McAfee Change Control solutions join a variety of McAfee technologies that have also received this solution including McAfee Network Security Platform and McAfee Firewall Enterprise.

"McAfee has given practitioners in the Department of Defense the ability in tactical, limited bandwidth, or fixed function environments the ability to secure systems with their existing HBSS management system without using critical bandwidth," said Scott Montgomery, vice president, Public Sector Solutions at McAfee. "Adding whitelisting as a means to secure systems will give commanders unprecedented flexibility in ensuring mission success."

McAfee makes substantial annual investments toward achieving and maintaining worldwide government certifications including Common Criteria and FIPS certifications across its network security and endpoint solutions. Customers such as commercial insurance providers, healthcare practitioners and hospital networks, systems integrators, and other entities that do business with the US DoD have begun to realize that this certification is becoming buying and deployment criteria for these organizations in order to be accredited by the DoD as safe partners.
