Interserve, the international support services and construction group, has signed a three-year cleaning services contract, worth over £2 million with Midlands Co-operative Society – the UK’s largest independent retailer.

Interserve will provide daily office and retail cleaning to their premises ranging from 690 to 34,900 sq ft. The contract will also include window cleaning, jet washing and floor strip and seals in all 86 Co-operative stores across the Midlands region.

Tony Sanders, Managing Director - Commercial at Interserve commented, “We are committed to becoming the trusted partner to companies across the UK, so are looking forward to contributing towards the co-operative society’s ethos. One practical example of this will be the use of green cleaning processes.

“In addition, we are pleased to welcome a number of the Society’s employees into our organisation and will be offering opportunities for career development through the, recently developed, Interserve Cleaning Apprenticeship. This unique programme is backed by Asset Skills, the Sector Skills Council for Facilities Management and Cleaning, which has already seen over 50 apprentices across our company successfully complete the course.”

Commenting on the new partnership, Lee Cooper-Bevan, Retail Support Manager, for Midlands Co-operative Society added, “We choose our partner organisations with care to ensure they can support and contribute towards our core values. Interserve met all of our criteria fully.”

One in five people in the UK are a member of a co-operative – amounting to 11 million members and nearly 5,000 co-operatives. The Midlands Co-operative Society is involved in a range of business sectors including food, clothes, travel, motoring and funeral homes.
