CellAdvisor Base Station Analyzer adds PIM Detection, LTE-Advanced, and LTE Broadcast MBMS

January 14, 2013 - Building on the success of the industry-leading JDSU CellAdvisor JD740A, the CellAdvisor JD780A Base Station Analyzer Series now supports LTE-Advanced, analyzing up to five component carriers and MIMO with two or four transmitting branches. Also new is PIM detection, and users can now control the instrument wirelessly up to 328 ft (100 m) via Bluetooth®. These advanced capabilities let users keep pace as LTE evolves, and allow the safe testing of high-mounted remote radio units from the ground.

Key Benefits

  • Quickly detects PIM: Cell technicians can detect whether interference is caused by PIM before dispatching troubleshooting specialists with expensive PIM analyzers, which significantly reduces resolution time and brings customers back online faster.
  • Tests advanced LTE services: Verify multimedia broadcast multicast services (MBMS) control signals and traffic allocation to efficiently deliver broadband services and generate additional revenues.
  • Easier LTE-Advanced implementation: Utilize capability to test aggregate composite carriers within the same frequency band or even between bands with the flexibility to independently set the channel bandwidth of each component carrier. Users can validate MIMO implementation for two or four transmitting antennas independently, assessing each branch's power and modulation quality.
  • Wireless remote troubleshooting for safer testing: CellAdvisor's wireless remote control capability now permits cell technicians and RF engineers to remotely test radio heads that are installed in high towers using Bluetooth long-distance (class 1) connectivity. While remaining safely on the ground, users achieve the same full visibility and control as if directly in front of the instrument.

Use Case

Confidently transmit signals at the base station and antennas with suitable quality to deliver the bandwidth customers demand and achieve expected revenues. CellAdvisor's exclusive auto-measurement for DAS architectures provides the complete profile of radios and remote units clearly indicating PASS/FAIL results based on configurable thresholds.

The JDSU CellAdvisor solutions include base station analyzers, RF analyzers, signal analyzers, and cable and antenna analyzers needed to install and maintain modern wireless communication systems. Wireless operators require critical RF tests to meet signal quality, MIMO performance, and interference challenges to guarantee reliable high-bandwidth service quality.
