We were nominated for five other categories last night, with Development Scientist Stuart Small nominated for Young Ambassador of the Year. Joining the 350 people from more than 30 UK chemical companies at the ceremony were the teams from Edinburgh and Annan. Liam Mills, Head of Technical Operations in Annan and Sally Jones, Communications Director collected the award.

We beat off competition from Aesica Pharmaceuticals Limited, BASF plc Alfreton site and Essar Oil UK to be selected as the most outstanding CIA member company, who had demonstrated business growth and a sustained contribution to the UK economy. Overall, the UK chemical sector adds £18 billion of value to the UK economy every year. The award is considered to be the pinnacle award of the year for the UK chemical industry.

The judges were impressed with our successful track record of scientific innovation. They also cited our commitment to investment in the UK, extensive programme of scientific collaborations and recent developments in next generation battery technologies to enable cleaner transportation as reasons for selecting us for this prestigious award. The wider chemical and pharmaceutical industry is the largest exporter of manufactured goods with annual exports of £50 billion - that's more than both the aerospace and the motor sectors.

Chief Executive Robert MacLeod commented, 'We've been leaders in our field for more than 200 years, applying unrivalled scientific expertise to enable cleaner air, improved health and the more efficient use of our planet's natural resources.'

'Our staff are the reason behind our success; we couldn't have achieved this accolade without them.'
