Students and teachers at Minnesota Virtual Academy (MNVA), an online public school program of the Houston Public School District, start classes on Sept. 5th. A full-time, tuition-free school of choice available to students in grades K-12, MNVA provides families throughout Minnesota with an innovative option to pursue their academic goals.

“We aim to help our students discover and develop to their greatest potential,” says head of school Krin Abraham. “As an online school, we offer the flexibility to do that in a unique environment that works for them.”

Students at MNVA tackle a full course load of the core subjects of math, science, English/language arts and history, as well as a host of electives and Advanced Placement® classes in high school.

For students looking to advance their post-secondary studies while still in high school, eligible MNVA students may take courses tuition-free at a local community college or university through the state’s Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program. The program allows 10th-, 11th- and 12th-grade students to earn both high school and college credit while still in high school, through enrollment in and successful completion of college nonsectarian courses at eligible participating postsecondary institutions. For students who begin the PSEO program full-time in their junior year, it is possible to graduate from high school with enough college credits for an Associate’s degree.

MNVA classes are delivered in live, online sessions by Minnesota-certified teachers, and through virtual Class Connect sessions where students can work together with their peers. Lessons are integrated across the curriculum, so students may apply what they are learning in one class to the lessons they encounter in another.

The virtual classroom allows students to pursue their courses at a pace that meets their needs and talents. Advanced learners can progress more quickly through their lessons, while those needing additional support can get what they need from teachers in class or during one-to-one online meetings.

Enrollment is still open for the 2017-18 school year. For more information visit http://mnva.k12.com/how-enroll. Learn more about MNVA from teachers and school leaders at an upcoming online or in-person information session, at http://mnva.k12.com/events-calendar.html.
