Pikes Peak Online School (PPOS), an accredited, full-time online public school, will celebrate its second graduating class with an in-person commencement ceremony on Friday, June 2, at 2 p.m. at the Auraria Higher Education Center in Denver.

Sixty-eight students will graduate from PPOS, whose comprehensive education approach focuses on providing struggling students statewide in grades 9-12 with the academic, social and emotional support needed to reach graduation. In the event that a student is deficient in course credit, the school’s extensive credit recovery courses allow a student to get back on track for a successful graduation.

Students and teachers work together to develop an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP), which often expands beyond academic objectives to include post-secondary goals for college or a career. In addition, the online curriculum is bolstered by a Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) program, as well as a family support team to help students achieve success both academically and personally.

“Our students have worked so hard to reach this significant milestone,” said Nicole Tiley, head of school at Pikes Peak Online School. “We strive to help students get back on track toward their high school diploma, and this year’s graduates prove that with hard work and support, you can reach your full potential.”

The PPOS Class of 2017 valedictorian is Trason Kubatka, and the salutatorian is Gareth Nott. Kubatka will address his fellow graduates, along with Lorenzo Eirhart and Patricia Louise Malit, who will share their stories of what they have overcome to get to graduation. PPOS counselor Renee Breur will also deliver remarks to the graduating class, and PPOS teachers and staff will be in attendance to recognize the students’ achievements.
