Wisconsin Virtual Academy (WIVA), an online public charter school authorized by the McFarland School District, has announced its open enrollment window for the 2017-18 school year. Open enrollment applications are now being accepted for students in grades K-12 who reside anywhere in the state of Wisconsin. Interested families can submit an application during the open enrollment window, which runs from Monday, Feb. 6 through 4 p.m. CST on Friday, April 28, 2017.

WIVA is a tuition-free educational option for students and families who prefer an alternative to traditional brick-and-mortar school. The program accepts students from across the state and takes an individualized approach to learning, merging online instruction with the support of Wisconsin-licensed teachers who are available online and by phone.

“Every student deserves to thrive in the environment that works best for them. Through our program’s tailored approach, we make the most of each child’s potential,” said Nicholas Sutherland, Head of School at Wisconsin Virtual Academy. “Whether enrolled in K-5, where students set the pace to their learning day with the help of certified teachers, or in high school, where a variety of academic choices including AP® levels are available, we ensure that each individualized learning style is considered.”

WIVA students in kindergarten through 5th grade work through a mastery-based program, which allows them to move at an appropriate pace to truly grasp the coursework. Middle school students take courses in all core subjects – English, math, science, history, and art – as well as self-guided elective courses in world language or music. The WIVA high school program offers more than 150 courses with multiple academic levels, including core, comprehensive, Honors, and Advanced Placement® – all designed to let students enjoy a program tailored to their goals and abilities and all taught by Wisconsin-licensed teachers.

WIVA will host in-person events in communities across the state for families to learn more about the school and meet with teachers and staff. Several online information sessions will also be held. More information on these events can be found online here.
