Keppel Corporation Limited was recognised with the Business China Enterprise Award at the Business China Awards 2015 for contributions to strengthening Singapore-China relations and growing businesses in the Chinese market.

Mr Danny Teoh,Non-Executive and Independent Director of Keppel Corporation, received the award from Mr Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security of the Republic of Singapore at the award ceremony cum gala dinner held at Resorts World Sentosa.

Mr Loh Chin Hua, CEO of Keppel Corporation, said, 'Keppel is honoured to receive this prestigious award. It is particularly meaningful for Keppel to receive this recognition in the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Singapore. Keppel has been privileged to grow with China for over three decades. The development of China has entered into a new phase with rapid urbanisation requiring holistic solutions. We will continue to leverage Keppel's unique blend of competencies in masterplanning, property development, environmental engineering and logistics to meet sustainable urbanisation needs in China.'

Presently, Keppel has operations in offshore and marine, property, infrastructure and logistics across 25 Chinese cities. Keppel also led the Singapore consortiums in two high-level Government-to-Government projects, namely the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park and the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City. The China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park has become one of the most successful industrial parks in China, while the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City has been named China's first National Green Development Demonstration Zone.

Keppel Land, the property arm of Keppel Corporation, has been participating in the Chinese market since the early 1990s and the country has now become one of the core markets for the Group. With presence across ten cities, Keppel Land owns a portfolio of residential, commercial, waterfront and lifestyle developments. To further grow with China, Keppel Land and China's leading property developer Vanke entered into a strategic alliance in 2013, which enables Keppel Land to leverage Vanke's keen knowledge of the market and deepen its presence in high-growth cities in China.

Keppel's infrastructure division entered the Chinese market through providing environmental solutions and logistics services. Keppel Seghers, the environmental engineering arm of Keppel's infrastructure division, is a leading imported waste-to-energy (WTE) technology provider in China. The Shenzhen Baoan WTE plant, which applies Keppel Seghers' proprietary technologies, is the largest operating WTE plant in China with a total capacity to treat 4,200 tonnes of solid waste per day. Keppel's involvement in the clean energy sector continues to grow with the three new technology package contracts signed earlier this year.

Leveraging its experience and industrial know-how in the logistics sector, Keppel Telecommunications and Transportation (Keppel T&T), guided by its two-pronged strategy of river logistics and third party logistics, is operating two integrated port logistics facilities in Foshan City, Guangdong Province and one river port in Wuhu City, Anhui Province, as well as developing food logistics parks in Jilin and Anhui Provinces and an integrated logistics distribution centre in Tianjin.

Keppel Offshore & Marine established Keppel Nantong Shipyard in Jiangsu Province in 2005, and later on expanded with a new yard, Keppel Nantong Heavy Industry (KHNI), next to the existing shipyard, to increase its production capacity to build bigger offshore support vessels and take on more offshore projects in China. The Group further expanded the Keppel Nantong Shipyard's capability by constructing a new slipway in 2015 to allow it to launch and service larger and heavier offshore vessels.

Mr Chua Thian Poh, Chairman of Business China, organiser of the Business China Awards, said, 'As one of the pioneer Singapore companies in the Chinese market, Keppel Corporation has flown the Singapore flag high. Over the years, the home-grown conglomerate has not only expanded its presence through its businesses and social efforts but also contributed to the deepening of bilateral relations between Singapore and China.'

Launched in 2010, the Business China Awards aim to honour outstanding businessmen, entrepreneurs, professionals and organisations for their successes and contributions to Singapore-China relations. By recognising these exemplary role models, the Awards also aim to promote bilingualism and biculturalism in Singapore.
