The free Wi-Fi of the ETS Railway Stations in Euskadi has registered over 42.535 sessions since its start

The Wi-Fi service is operating since the past month of September in 13 stations of Euskotren, as a result of the agreement between the public institution Euskal Trenbide Sarea (ETS) and GOWEX. The hotspots located in the Guipuzcoan stations of Amara and Intxaurrondo, two districts of San Sebastián, together with the ones of Lasarte and Renteria, concentrated around 60% of the network use. Almost nine out of ten sessions are carried out through mobile devices: smartphones (82.2%) and tablets (4.4%), and the remaining 13.4% through laptops.


Madrid, February 5th 2013-. The Free Wi-Fi service, operating in 13 Euskotren stations located in some of the main municipalities of Guipúzcoa and Bizcaia, counts already with over 1.773 registered users. The network was launched during the past month of September as a result of the agreement between the public institution Euskal Trenbide Sarea (ETS) and GOWEX (GOW-MAB, ALGOW-NYSE Alternext, LGWXY-OTC Market), a leading company in the creation of Wireless Smart Cities®, in charge of the handling and execution of the service.


57.2% of the users browsing the Wi-Fi network of the Euskotren stations are men vs. a 42.8% of women. When it comes to age, users aged between 15 and 29 account for 42.6%, followed by the age range group included between 30 and 44, representing a 29.9%, and the one included between 45 and 74, accounting for 21.8%.
Elderly people (aged between 75-89) only represent 5.19% of the registered users.

Most used hotspots: Amara, Intxaurrondo, Lasarte and Rentería

Since September, the free WiFi network of the Euskotren stations registered over 42.535 connections, with a monthly average of over 8.500 sessions. Around 60% of the connections were carried out through the hotspots located in the Euskotren stations of Amara and Intxaurrondo, in San Sebastian, as well as in the Guipuzcoan municipalities of Lasarte and Rentería. 
9 out of 10 users connect with mobile devices.


The average time of connection in whole network is of about 40-50 minutes, and the sessions peak was registered between 12am and 13pm.


When it comes to the devices used for the connection, 9 out of 10 sessions are carried out through Smart phones (82,2%) and tablets (4,4%) and the remaining 13,4% through laptops. Android is the main operating system (68.8%), whereas iOS (13.7%), Windows (10%) and others (10%) lag far behind.


How to connect to our network


In order to access our connection service, travelers only have to select our "GOWEXWiFi" with their smart devices (smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc.) and, when they open their browser, the system will automatically redirect to our validation page where they will need to register. Once registered, they will be able to browse for free at a speed of 512 kbps.


Thanks to our free Roaming, users will be able to connect with the same username and password through any of our GOWEX WiFi newspaper stand located in Bilbao and in many other cities of the province (Getxo, Basauri, Barakaldo, Eibar, Zalla etc.) as well as to the rest of the networks of our Company around the world (Madrid, Nueva York, San Francisco, Dublin, Paris, etc.).
