MILPITAS, CA - Augus t 21, 2014 - Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTC3807, a low quies cent current s ynchronous s tep-down DC/DC controller that draws only 50µA in s tandby m ode with the output voltage in regulation. The 4V to 38V input s upply range is des igned to protect agains t high voltage trans ients , continue operation during autom otive cold crank and cover a broad range of input s ources and battery chem is tries . The output voltage can be s et from 0.8V to 24V at output currents up to 25 am ps with efficiencies as high as 95%, m aking it well s uited for autom otive, heavy equipm ent, indus trial and robotic applications .
The LTC3807 has powerful 1.1 Ohm on-chip MOSFET gate drivers . It operates with a s electable fixed frequency between 50kHz and 900kHz and is s ynchronizable to an external clock ranging from 75kHz to 850kHz. The us er can s elect from continuous operation, puls e s kipping and low ripple Burs t Mode® operation during light loads . Its current-m ode architecture provides eas y loop com pens ation, fas t trans ient res pons e and excellent line regulation. Output current s ens ing is accom plis hed by m eas uring the voltage drop acros s the output inductor (DCR) for the highes t efficiency or by us ing an optional s ens e res is tor. Current foldback lim its MOSFET heat dis s ipation during overload conditions . Additional features include a low 95ns m inim um on-tim e for high s tep-down ratios , up to 99% duty cycle for low voltage dropout, an internal LDO that powers the gate drivers and a power good s ignal.
The LTC3807 is available in 20-pin 3m m x 4m m QFN and 20-lead TSSOP therm ally enhanced packages . Four tem perature grades are available, with operation from -40 to 125°C for the extended and indus trial grades , a high tem p autom otive range of -40°C to 150°C and a m ilitary grade of -55°C to 150ÈC.
