MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - September 17, 2014 - LinkedIn, (NYSE: LNKD) the world's largest online professional network on the Internet, announced today the return of its Bring In Your Parents Dayinitiative on Thursday, November 6, 2014. With one in three parents not understanding their child's job, the event encourages businesses worldwide to open their doors to their employees' parents and give them an inside view of their child's professional life. A global study released today by LinkedIn reinforces the continued role parents play in their child's career well beyond the school playground; nearly 60 percent of professionals believe their parents have valuable professional advice to offer - they're just not sharing enough of it.

Many parents (35 percent) agree they have the skills to help - including problem solving (44 percent), perseverance (42 percent), integrity (39 percent), organizational skills and time management (37 percent) - yet admit to holding back. Nearly a quarter blame not knowing enough about their child's career and worry their child doesn't want or won't listen to their guidance.

"Parents can often be a valuable part of their child's professional network, however, our research reveals professionals aren't taking full advantage of their parents' experience and wisdom," says Nicole Williams, LinkedIn career expert. "Parents are often overlooked when it comes to seeking career advice so Bring in Your Parents is all about highlighting the benefits of turning to them. Bring In Your Parents Day is an opportunity for parents to better understand their child's professional life and in turn share what they've learned from their own careers. It's also an opportunity for us to say thank you for the support our parents have given us- something we can easily forget to do."

The research also showed that more than one in ten professionals (12 percent) admitted to never thanking their parents for their guidance with over half (58 percent) acknowledging they should thank their parents more often.

LinkedIn Bring In Your Parents Day will be held in 16 countries including the United Kingdom, United States, France, The Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Australia, India, Canada, Singapore, China, Japan, Ireland and Hong Kong, and encourages businesses worldwide to take part in the day. Companies including Logitech, Virgin, British Airways and Rubicon Project are already signed up to take part.
