London 24 May 2017: VfB Stuttgart's home stadium roof which is over 24 years old will be completely replaced with material from Low & Bonar.

The performance materials provider will supply the architecture membrane to the Mercedes-Benz Arena's 41,750 m2 roof with work due to start immediately with the end of the 2. Bundesliga season.

Not only will the timing of the replacement work be challenging as it needs to be completed before the August return of VfB Stuttgart, but specialist skills will be required as the membrane hovers 18-35 meters above the ground.

Made of a special dense woven fabric that is coated with a fluoridated nano-topcoat which makes it easier to clean - improving performance - the MEHGIES® Valmex® Mehatop® membrane can be pre-produced, shipped to the site and erected directly saving valuable time. These factors played a role in its selection by German design contractor Schleich and Bergmann.

Brett Simpson, CEO commented: "We pride ourselves on the quality of our performance materials. Valmex fabrics have been proven to last for decades due to particular properties of the material. This saves on long-term maintenance and replacement costs and adds to the venue sustainability."

Low & Bonar has previously equipped the Poznan stadium in Poland for the 2012 European Championships and Konya football stadium in Turkey.

VfB Stuttgart has won the German national championship five times, most recently in 2006-07; the DFB-Pokal three times; and the UEFA Intertoto Cup a record three times. The team is currently a 2. Bundesliga side but hopes to win promotion next season.
