Macquarie's Commodities and Global Markets group (CGM) today announced it has strengthened its European research capability with the appointment of four top-tier analysts.

Grant Sporre has been appointed Head of European Metals and Mining Research. Grant brings over sixteen years of experience covering the metals and mining industry, most recently as the former Head of Metals Research and Commodity Strategy at Deutsche Bank.

Serafino Capoferri has joined the commodities research team as an Analyst covering bulk commodities. Previously, Serafino was Head of Iron Ore Research, covering all aspects of the iron ore, metallurgical coal and manganese ore markets at specialist consultancy CRU.

In addition, Domenico Santoro has been appointed Head of the European Banks Research team and Robert Sage re-joins the Macquarie team as senior UK Banks Analyst.

Domenico has written on the European banking industry for over seventeen years, with a strong focus on the Italian market, and in his new role will also commence coverage on the Spanish banking sector. He arrives from specialist research provider Autonomous, where he was a senior partner covering Italian and Greek banks, and also previously held roles at KBW, Nomura and Exane BNP.

Robert will focus on the large cap UK banking sector, including coverage of HSBC and Standard Chartered. He joins from Natixis, where he was a Director covering UK banks and prior to this, Robert covered the UK banking sector as part of the Macquarie Research team.

Shai Hill, Head of European Research at Macquarie, said: 'As a top ten global research platform, these high calibre appointments to Macquarie Research will strengthen our well-established positions in the European banking, commodities and metals and mining sectors. We remain focused on supporting our clients with timely and differentiated insights, in addition to actionable calls and forecasts on the sectors' outlook.'

Globally, other recent new hires include the appointment of David Lipschitz in New York as Senior Analyst in US metals and mining and Ric Deverell as Chief Economist and Head of Macro Research in Sydney, who brings over 25 years of international experience analysing the global economy and financial markets.

In addition to these appointment announcements, Macquarie is proud to be named across 25 categories in the recent Thomson Reuters Analyst Awards 2017. These awards are recognised as the global standard in objective measurement of sell-side analyst performance. They measure the performance of analysts based on the returns of their buy/sell recommendations relative to industry benchmarks; and the accuracy of their earnings estimates across 14 regions.
