AURORA, Ontario, May 14, 2013 - Magna International Inc. announced its Cosma International operating unit was one of eight suppliers which received a BMW Supplier Innovation Award for outstanding achievements in innovation and development. The second annual awards were given during ceremonies in Munich.

Cosma was recognized in the area of Lightweight Construction for a lightweight, high-voltage battery housing made of die-cast aluminum. The battery housing is manufactured by Magna BDW technologies GmbH, a division of Cosma located in Germany. Cosma was able to combine multiple, complex functions within a single component, eliminating steps in the manufacturing process and reducing weight substantially.

"Through innovation and world-class manufacturing we continue to distinguish ourselves in the auto supply industry," said Manfred Moser, Vice President of Cosma's Casting Group. "This recognition from our valued customer confirms we are on the right path, as we continue to innovate to support our customers' evolving needs."

The BMW Group recognizes its most innovative suppliers as key partners which play a crucial role in the successful implementation of new developments, and the Supplier Innovation Award is designed to pay tribute to their achievements.

Klaus Draeger, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Purchasing and Supplier Network, explained: "We intend to continue expanding and strengthening our innovation leadership. Close cooperation with suppliers is extremely important to us. This award is designed not only to recognize outstanding achievements, but also as an incentive for our suppliers to strive for a key competitive edge through their innovations for the BMW Group in the future."
