Magna International : News Release - Magna Showcases Lightweight Innovation at IAA Commercial Vehicles 2016

'Electric drive is becoming increasingly important for commercial vehicles of every type,' says Jake Hirsch, President Magna Powertrain. 'With our innovative and vast product portfolio, and especially our new lightweight truck frame, we are meeting the needs of the industry regarding weight reduction, fuel efficiency and low exhaust emissions.'

The innovative Lightweight Truck Frame V4.0 offsets the additional weight of the battery and reduces the weight of the frame by 35% compared to conventional structures. This allows commercial vehicle manufacturers to maintain the maximal load volume of vehicles while offering innovative drive solutions - a clear advantage for transport and delivery companies.

Another highlight at the Magna booth will be the FC REEV - an electric vehicle with fuel-cell range-extender concept. With this innovative drivable demonstrator, Magna shows how very long ranges can be achieved at zero emissions. The drive concept using a fuel-cell range-extender can be built into any vehicle. The FC REEV thereby combines the advantages of two different alternative drives: fast fueling and the high-energy density of hydrogen as well as the available infrastructure for electric charging.
