MEDIA GENERAL NAMES ANDY ALFORD GENERAL MANAGER OF WFLA-TV IN TAMPA, FL

Richmond, VA -(NYSE: MEG), a local broadcast television and digital media company, today announced that Andy Alford has been named Vice President and General Manager of WFLA, its NBC affiliate in Tampa, FL, effective August 1, 2014. Mr. Alford is currently Vice President of Sales for Media General, and Vice President and General Manager of WTEN in Albany, NY.

"Andy is a 30-year veteran in the broadcast industry, and he has large market experience, having previously served as General Manager of WGCL in Atlanta, a Top 10 DMA. In addition to extensive GM experience, Andy has a long track record of success as a broadcast executive. He is the ideal leader for WFLA."

Mr. Alford has served as Vice President and General Manager of WTEN, an ABC affiliate, since 2010. WTEN maintains shared services and joint sales agreements with Shield Media, the owner of WXXA, the Fox affiliate in Albany. He will continue to serve as Vice President of Sales for Media General, a position he has held since June 1, 2014. Before moving to Albany, Mr. Alford spent a total of seven years at WGCL in Atlanta, most recently as Vice President and General Manager and, prior to that, as Station Manager and General Sales Manager. Prior to working in Atlanta, he was General Sales Manager of WOFL in Orlando, FL. Mr. Alford also has served in management roles in Syracuse, NY and Rochester, NY. He grew up in Rochester and began his broadcast career in sales at WHEC. Mr. Alford has been involved in a number of industry and community organizations, including the Board of Directors of Make-A-Wish, Georgia Association of Broadcasters, The Southeast Chapter of National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and he currently serves on the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement for Northeastern New York.

The Tampa-St. Petersburg-Sarasota DMA is the 14th largest television market in the nation, according to Nielsen Media Research.
