MoneyGram (NASDAQ: MGI) knows that helping students achieve success in subjects such as math and science builds a better tomorrow. That's why the company is joining the Asian Youth Center, a nonprofit organization that serves the social and educational needs of Asian immigrants, to help underprivileged students in their studies.

As part of MoneyGram's annual Back to School campaign, MoneyGram is donating 65 "Kurio" tablets to fifth-grade students from Roosevelt Elementary School in San Gabriel, California. The tablets are loaded with e-books and other educational materials that can help guide students in their schoolwork, from math to science and literature. This gift follows on the heels of research showing that 57 percent of young children who use tablets employ them for educational purposes.

"We're pleased we can bring families closer together through our services, and especially happy to support education in communities where we work and live throughout the world," said Juan Agualimpia, executive vice president, chief marketing officer, MoneyGram. "At MoneyGram, we believe a strong commitment to early education is important. Through our Back to School campaign, we are confident these tablets will help students at Roosevelt Elementary meet their educational aspirations."

MoneyGram has a history of educational material donations each August as part of its Back to School campaign. In years past, the company has donated supplies to schools around the world, in such countries as Romania, the Philippines and Kenya. MoneyGram teamed up with the Asian Youth Center because of its recognized leadership in childhood development within the San Gabriel Valley community. The Asian Youth Center pinpointed Roosevelt Elementary as a school with much need.

"As our classrooms continue to integrate high-tech educational tools, it is important that we provide students with learning equipment that will stimulate their curiosity and desire to succeed academically," said Cheryl Wilson, principal, Roosevelt Elementary School. "MoneyGram understands that early education is crucial in the development of the next generation of leaders. We thank them for this gesture, and look forward to working with our students as they begin interactive studies with the tablets."
