Members will be asked to 'Find Your Four!'

November 23, 2015

Providence, R.I. - The Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce is the first Chamber of Commerce to officially join the Rhode Island Energy: Find Your Four!. The Chamber will encourage member businesses to participate in the Challenge and find four ways to reduce energy in their work and at home.

Working with National Grid and the non-profit SmartPower, the Chamber will educate members about the importance of reducing energy use and then spur them to take simple actions at home and at their businesses that can save money and energy. The Chamber has committed to signing up 10% of its members to take the Challenge and earn the designation of Rhode Island Energy Champion.

The Northern Rhode Island Chamber network extends throughout Rhode Island and into Massachusetts with a primary focus on the communities of Burrillville, Central Falls, Cumberland, Lincoln, Pawtucket, Smithfield, North Smithfield, and Woonsocket.

“We are committed to helping our members reduce energy waste whether it be in their companies or across our community,” stated John C. Gregory, Chamber President/CEO. “Wasting energy hurts our economy and it hurts our environment. There are simple things every employer and resident can do to reduce their energy use at home and at work, and we are going to help our members understand that by taking part in the Rhode Island Energy Challenge.”

“We are thrilled to have the Chamber join the Challenge” said Timothy F. Horan, president of National Grid in Rhode Island. “We have had great participation from employers across the state, and having a Chamber of Commerce support this energy challenge helps to strengthen the message that saving energy is just good business.”

“The momentum keeps building for The Rhode Island Energy Challenge,” said SmartPower’s President, Brian F. Keane. “The Northern RI Chamber of Commerce’s commitment to ‘Find Your Four’ adds another major organization – and shows that everyone in the Ocean State can take simple, easy energy actions that save money and energy.”

The Rhode Island Energy Challenge: Find Your Four! campaign is a dynamic program that has engaged thousands of Rhode Islanders to change their energy use behaviors by taking four energy-reducing actions in their home or at work. The Challenge has partnered with local municipalities, faith-based organizations, businesses and non-profit groups who committed to getting residents, employees and members to participate. Recent Rhode Island Energy Champions include North Providence, Central Falls, Newport, Warwick, North Smithfield, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of RI, and Rhode Island Interfaith Power & Light. The City of Providence will finish its Find Your Four! engagement in January 2016.
