  • Local people invited to share their memories ahead of dismantling the gas holders
  • Thursday 10 December, King's Centre between 3 pm and 4.30 pm

National Grid is asking local residents with memories of the Cremorne Lane gas works to step forward to help capture the site's rich history.

Everyone is invited to celebrate the history of the gas holder site on Thursday 10 December between 3pm and 4.30pm at the King's Centre in Norwich.

Sam Rendell, National Grid said: 'We would like to invite you to a heritage event at the King's Centre to celebrate the gas holders in Norwich. Since announcing that National Grid would be dismantling the gasholders we have been engaging closely with local people. We had such a positive response, and I'd like to thank everyone who got in touch.

'Our event at the King's Centre will bring people together to share and record their fond memories. It will be a chance to see old photos, exchange stories and have some tea and cake with the National Grid team.

'Preserving the industrial history of the gasworks is important to us, so during the heritage event we will be making a record of the accounts given by attendees and compiling a Norwich gas holder booklet which can always be treasured.'

The work to dismantle the gas holder is underway and due to be complete in April 2016. It is part of National Grid's nationwide programme to regenerate brownfield sites so that they can have a useful future.
