Navitas and Edith Cowan University enter joint venture for Pathway College

Global education services provider Navitas Limited (ASX: NVT) is pleased to announce that it has entered into a 50:50 joint venture agreement with Edith Cowan University (ECU) for the operation of Navitas' original pathway college, PIBT.

Under the new agreement the college is to be renamed Edith Cowan College (ECC) and will continue to provide English language, pre-university, international study tours and university pathway programs to international and domestic students at ECU's Joondalup and Mt Lawley campuses.

As ECC is an existing profitable operation, no additional funding is required from either party. The disposal transaction of ECC to convert it into a joint venture is expected to complete on 30 September 2016 subject to customary regulatory approvals. The disposal of Navitas' existing PIBT operation to the joint venture will likely result in a one-off non- cash gain in the profit and loss account of the group for the period ended 31 December 2016.

As in Navitas' other joint venture colleges, the college will be governed by a board of directors with equal Navitas and ECU representation and an independent chair. The joint venture has no fixed term and will not require periodic renewal.

ECC will continue to deliver all of its existing programs with the joint venture model also expected to provide further opportunity for program and product expansion in the coming years.

"This joint venture signals the next exciting chapter in the 22 year relationship we have with Edith Cowan University, our very first university partner," said Group Chief Executive Officer, Rod Jones.

"The new model will allow us to develop a broader strategic relationship with ECU and to provide more opportunities for international and domestic students to enter higher education at a leading Western Australian university recently ranked one of the world's best young universities."

Edith Cowan University Vice-Chancellor Steve Chapman said: "The launch of Edith Cowan College is a pivotal development for Edith Cowan University in the University's 25th Anniversary year."

"ECU is developing a new strategic plan with ambitious goals in Research, Internationalisation, and Learning and Teaching. The launch of ECC will re-establish ECU's international growth strategy, ensure an excellent student experience for students joining the university from around the world, and set in place a modern, internationally competitive business model for pathway program delivery."
