Neptune Orient Lines : APL Wins HAROPA’s ‘Best Green Shipping Line’ Award

SINGAPORE, 09 Sep 2016:

APL has been named the 'Best Green Shipping Line' by HAROPA, the French port of Le Havre, Rouen and Paris on 7 September 2016. For the second year in a row, HAROPA is recognising APL's exemplary environmental performance in reducing air emissions beyond the International Maritime Organization's standards.

Dennis Yee, APL Head of Global Safety, Security and Environment said, 'We are honoured to receive the accolade from HAROPA. The Award is an affirmation of our practices towards green and responsible shipping. APL remains committed to sound environmental stewardship in our activities and will keep identifying the best solutions towards environmental protection.'

Benchmarked against the Environmental Ship Index (ESI) that evaluates the emission levels of nitrogen oxide, sulphur oxide and carbon of a ship, APL vessels achieved excellent scores to be ranked amongst the cleanest containerships that called the French port in 2015.

APL's commendable environmental performance is attributed to its continual improvements in operational efficiency, fleet and voyage optimisation, technical improvements, use of cleaner fuels and fleet of environmentally-friendly vessels. Fitted with Alternative Maritime Power, the auxiliary engines of APL vessels are enabled to turn off at the port and plug into cleaner shore-side power instead.

APL's pursuits in environmental excellence have consistently been recognised by the industry. Previously, it also won the Port Metro Vancouver Blue Circle Award for excellence in air emissions reduction, and the 75 Green Supply Chain Partners award by Inbound Logistics magazine for attaining its carbon emissions target.
