Ultra-low-power (ULP) RF specialist Nordic Semiconductor ASA (OSE: NOD) today confirms it will highlight its nRF51 IoT Software Development Kit (SDK) and demonstrate IPv6 over Bluetooth® Smart for the thousands of visitors and volume buyers who will converge on CES Asia 2015. The company is also confirming details of exhibits, demonstrations, and partner companies that it will be hosting at booth N1A70, in Hall N1 in the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC), from May 25-27, 2015.

Nordic's IPv6 over Bluetooth Smart protocol stack for its nRF51 Series Systems-on-Chip (SoCs) enables small, low-cost, ultra-low-power Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The nRF51 IoT SDK is a complete IPv6-ready Internet Protocol Suite for the nRF51 Series Bluetooth Smart SoCs. The SDK enables native and interoperable IP-based connectivity between a Bluetooth Smart 'thing' and a cloud service. It also enables Bluetooth Smart to be used in large, distributed, cloud-connected, heterogeneous networks such as home, industrial, and enterprise automation.

Earlier this year, Nordic was named a CES 2015 Innovation Awards Honoree for the nRF51822 Bluetooth Smart and 2.4GHz proprietary multiprotocol SoC with S110 SoftDevice v7.0. Products chosen as CES Innovation Honorees reflect innovative design and engineering in some of the most cutting edge tech products and services coming to market.

Companies from North America, Europe, and Asia which are using Nordic's nRF51 Series Bluetooth Smart and ANT+™ solutions in a number of innovative applications will demonstrate and talk about their products at the booth. The partner companies are as follows:

  • Shanghai 37 Degree Technology Co., Ltd. was founded in 2014 and is committed to the R&D of products able to quantify aspects of human physiology. Recently the company has promoted a smart band that uses photoelectric technology to measure blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, motion, fatigue, sports activities and sleep.
  • ASSA ABLOY will be demonstrating the company's award-winning HID Mobile Access® solution for opening doors and gates with smartphones and other smart devices. The solution supports both iOS® and Android™ devices, and provides secure cloud-based management of identity data through the HID Secure Identity Services™ platform and mobile app.
  • Fastfox, founded in 2013, is committed to the popularisation of smart wearable devices. The Fastfox wristband was the champion on Pozible for a half-year, and the first domestic smart hardware to be in the headlines at CNN. Fastfox is also the inventor of the world's first real smart shoes.
  • Foxconn Interconnect Technology will be presenting its iPhone 6 sleeve case with A4WP wireless charging, as well as its A4WP wireless charging pad. Both are based on Nordic's Bluetooth Smart technology.
  • Ginshell (Hangzhou) Technology Co., Ltd. was established in August 2013 and is focused on the R&D of smart wrist devices. Currently, the company is producing third-generation wearable devices - the bong X and XX. The bong open platform has three key features, including communication with and control of other smart devices, and a long battery life of 25-30 days. More information about the bong X and XX is online at http://www.bong.cn/.
  • IDT began manufacturing its consumer electronics products in China in 1977. Leveraging its strong R&D expertise, the product range includes time-and-weather stations and sports and healthcare devices. A leading feature is the use of wireless technologies such as 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Smart, with the aim of welding these technologies with everyday life. IDT is also an OEM/ODM manufacturer of wearable sports and medically approved healthcare devices.
  • Newgame Interaction Technology (Fuzhou) Co., Ltd. is concentrating on innovation for the mobile Internet, offering a series of products and services that include developer services and gaming peripherals. Newgame communities, meanwhile, are jointly developing mobile-games technology. In addition, the company has formed a team to assist game developers with continuous product enhancement. This is creating a new games ecosystem and providing an integrated mobile-gaming service.
  • Sensoro, founded in July 2013, is committed to the construction of a large mobile-Internet data network that integrates intelligent sensors. Sensoro's iBeacon sensor, Yunzi, is the first such licensed product in China. Meanwhile, Sensoro has thoroughly optimised the iBeacon protocol, enabling its use with multiple sensors. This has enormously expanded the iBeacon's range of potential applications.

"CES Asia 2015, whose venue is China's dynamic technology hub of Shanghai, follows in the tradition of CES International, the world's leading showcase for innovation in consumer electronics," comments Steel Ytterdal, Nordic Semiconductor's Director Sales & Marketing in Asia. "The industry is now poised for its next big advance, the hugely important Internet of Things or 'IoT', and Nordic is using the event to showcase its IPv6 over Bluetooth Smart stack and the nRF51 IoT SDK. Internet Protocol over Bluetooth Smart is a core enabling technology for the IoT."

"The enabling architecture of the nRF51 Series was recognised earlier this year by the CES Innovation Award judges," adds Ytterdal. "The unique nRF51 Series has unleashed a wave of innovation on the part of our design partners, and their brilliant engineering is right here at the show, a key focus of the Nordic display."

CES Asia serves as the premier event for the consumer technology industry both regionally and internationally, showcasing the full breadth and depth of innovation in the Asian marketplace. CES Asia provides access to innovative companies within China, across Asia and around the world. The show will span more than 10,000 net square metres of exhibit space in this its inaugural year, with a major focus on connectivity and the Internet of Things.
