Oil Search delivers vital education infrastructure in Chimbu

Students attending the remote Bimai High School in Chimbu Province are set to see improved learning opportunities with the opening of a brand new double classroom, two new dormitories and two teachers' houses at a cost of K3.9 million, thanks in part to Oil Search and the Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme.

The latest Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme (ITCS) project to be delivered by Oil Search began in 2015 at the request of Kerenga Kua, Member for Sinasina Yongomugl Open. The school was built in 1992 and needed major infrastructure upgrade to accommodate the growing number of students and teachers. Bimai High School enrols students from more than seven feeder primary schools.

Gerea Aopi, CBE Oil Search Executive General Manager for Stakeholder Engagement was on hand in Chimbu to officiate and hand over the facilities to the PNG Government.

This is achieved through a number of areas, including infrastructure delivery," said Mr Aopi.

"I am pleased to see that the project was delivered successfully under extreme conditions. This demonstrates our commitment to PNG and having quality education for all."

During 2017, Oil Search project-managed more than K396 million of infrastructure projects, including the construction of roads, hospitals and school redevelopments, on behalf of the PNG Government, under the Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme.
