PNG EARTHQUAKE 2018

Oil Search response continues with World Food Programme partnership

16 April, 2018

Oil Search assisted the United Nations World Food Programme to deliver over thirty (30) tonnes of relief supplies to villages affected by the 26 February earthquake.

The Company provided logistical support through the use of its helicopters, storage area in the Company's base in Moro and personnel to assist with the effective delivery of the supplies to the most affected areas.

Following a visit and pledge to the earthquake affected villagers, the World Food Programme came back with food supplies such as rice and high energy biscuits and delivered them to the people at the care centres.

The team started the delivery of supplies on Friday and Saturday covering six care centre villages in Southern Highlands, Hela and Western provinces.

The Company provided four helicopters to sling the supplies from Moro to Huiya, Yalanda, Kekero, Dodomona, Walagu and Adumari villages, with each helicopter making over ten flights in the two days.

The communities welcomed the team and thanked Oil Search for continuously providing initial support to them since the earthquake. They also extended their gratitude to World Food Programme for their assistance.

"We have nothing to give to you for what you have done to us during this time but we want to say thank you to the Company and the World Food Programme for your generous support in this time of need and we know our God will bless your kind hearts," Japheth, a local church pastor and community leader said.

The World Food Programme will distribute food over a four-month period building on Oil Search's efforts to supply food to the most vulnerable populations over the past six weeks.

Ends.
