SHENZHEN, China - Sept. 4, 2014 - ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN), driving energy efficient innovations, has won the Promising New Life-Saving Technology of the Year award for its Ezairo 7100 series of integrated circuits and packaged hybrids in this year's China Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards. With five times the processing power of previous systems, the Ezairo 7100 series represents a major advancement for manufacturers of state-of-the-art hearing aids and hearing implants.

The ACE Awards 2014 program is sponsored by EE Times China, EDN China and ESM China, three of the country's best-known electronics publications. The awards showcase the technologies, companies and people that drive innovative electronics design in mainland China.

"The Ezairo 7100 series was selected from among five products in the Promising New Life-Saving Technology category by online voters on the ACE program website after being shortlisted by a specialist panel. The criteria for the winning technology included enabling ground-breaking electronics design, and opening up new market opportunities for electronics manufacturers. The judges were also looking for products that offer significant technical and design benefits over previous technologies and competitors.

"It's exciting for ON Semiconductor to be honored by such a prestigious award, which recognizes us for providing compelling enabling technology for medical applications," said Michel De Mey, senior director, hearing solutions and consumer health at ON Semiconductor. "Although audiology is a prime focus for our medical R&D team, we also produce technologies for medical imaging, portable medical devices, implantable devices and remote patient monitoring systems. As always here at ON Semiconductor, the goal is to deliver ground-breaking, high-performance technologies that help our customers build market-leading products."

Ezairo 7100 is one of the industry's most integrated and power-efficient single chip solutions. Its unique quad-core architecture is constructed of a 24-bit open-programmable CFX DSP core. Inclusion of the ARM® Cortex-M3 processor supports wireless protocols and complements the DSP core with special error-correction and audio coding support. The system also features a HEAR configurable accelerator engine, dedicated for audio processing tasks and a new Filter Engine which implements efficient time-domain filters. When combined with non-volatile memory and wireless transceivers, it forms a complete hardware platform.

While major signal processing is hardwired in logic blocks, Ezairo 7100 is a programmable DSP designed to enable additional signal processing capabilities to be implemented in software. The open architecture is designed specifically for hearing aids and hearing implant devices, enabling manufacturers to respond quickly to changing market needs.

Manufactured using 65 nanometer (nm) process technology, the series integrates analog front-end circuitry with an unmatched input dynamic range of 110 decibel (dB) that delivers high sound precision and quality. A programmable Filter Engine supports an ultra-low delay audio path of 44 μs for superior performance of features such as occlusion management. The addition of an integrated wireless controller, compatible with NFMI and RF wireless technologies, supports efficient data transfer to and from wireless transceivers.
