Amerita, a wholly owned subsidiary of PharMerica (NYSE:PMC) and specialty infusion company focused on providing complex pharmaceutical products and clinical services to patients outside of the hospital, announced today that it has been awarded Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation from URAC, the independent, nonprofit leader in the accreditation of health and managed care organizations that was formerly known as the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission. Amerita’s accreditation is effective through August 1, 2018.

“I am proud of our team for achieving full Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation, which provides external validation of our excellence in specialty pharmacy management,” said Richard Iriye, President of Amerita. “This recognition affirms the hard work and diligent clinical management of our clinicians in ensuring that quality services are provided to our patients in a safe and effective manner. Specialty pharmacy is an important line of business for Amerita, and we look forward to continued growth and success in this rapidly expanding market sector.”

The URAC accreditation demonstrates a commitment to quality services, and underscores that Amerita meets or exceeds nationally recognized standards. The accreditation also provides external validation of Amerita’s excellence in Specialty Pharmacy Management and the Company’s commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) to improve operations and enhance compliance. To achieve Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation, Amerita underwent a comprehensive review of its policies, procedures and other organizational information, followed by an onsite review.

Amerita’s full-service speciality pharmacy provides high cost biotech and injectable medications for acute events, complex therapies or specific chronic conditions, including multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, certain types of cancer, solid organ transplant, and hemophilia. These drugs can be injected, infused or taken orally, and typically require special handling, a high level of patient monitoring and support, and other specialty expertise.

“We applaud Amerita on achieving URAC Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation,” said URAC President and CEO Kylanne Green. “In today’s healthcare market, URAC accreditation provides a mark of distinction for organizations to demonstrate their commitment to quality healthcare.”
