PRA PROVIDES LIFE‐CHANGING REHABILITATION FOR 30 MILITARY MEN AND WOMEN THROUGH ITS SUPPORT OF EQUI‐VETS SERVICE PROGRAM

April 24, 2014

Portfolio Recovery Associates, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRAA), a financial and business services company headquartered in Norfolk, Va., has renewed its support as the largest donor and supporter of EQUI‐VETS Service Program with a gift of $30,000. These funds directly underwrite the ability for 30 wounded, ill and injured service men and women to be able to participate in the program.
EQUI‐VETS is the sister program of EQUI‐KIDS Therapeutic Riding Program and provides therapeutic riding and equine‐assisted activities for active, reserve and retired service personnel injured in the line of duty. Founded in 2010, the EQUI‐VETS program served 48 men and women last year alone. Through its partnership with Portsmouth Naval Medical Center's recreation therapy department, the program has continued to grow year after year. The six‐week program is offered at no cost to participants in honor of their service and sacrifice.
"EQUI‐VETS has proven to be more impactful than we ever imagined," commented Executive Director Jill Haag. "Working around and riding our horses greatly enhances our participants' self esteem, self awareness and self confidence. Through the generous funding support of PRA to underwrite the program expenses for 30 new EQUI‐VETS this year, we are making incredible strides in enhancing the lives of retired service members, as well as aiding those in transition from military to civilian life."
Kevin Stevenson, executive vice president and chief financial and administrative officer for PRA, serves on the EQUI‐KIDS and EQUI‐VETS executive committee as treasurer of the board of directors.
"Even though I have no horse related background, I have witnessed firsthand, the remarkable, positive impact that equine therapy has on children. After I was first introduced to the EQUI‐VETS program I knew right away that PRA needed to support the program," said Stevenson. "With PRA's headquarters located near the largest naval station in the world, it's not uncommon to see how debilitating injuries affect those who are a part of our community. EQUI‐VETS provides an amazing new lease on life, enabling true American heroes to once again enjoy life after giving so selflessly for our country."
EQUI‐VETS Service Program anticipates providing service to more than 60 participants this year, thanks to the generous support of keystone donors like PRA.
