From L to R: Faith Albano, Hillside Food Rescue and Distribution Coordinator; Tom Pasztor, PotashCorp Senior Director, Corporate & Government Relations; Brent Heimann, PotashCorp President, PCS Phosphate and Nitrogen and Maiya Lueptow, Director of Hillside Food Pantry.
With a commitment of $20,000 from PCS Administration (USA)
Inc, the Hillside Food Pantry located in Evanston, Illinois
will now be able to expand its current building to support
the collection, sorting and storing of non-perishable food
donations. Brent Heimann, President of PCS Phosphate and
Nitrogen, initiated the gift after attending the Woman's
Club of Evanston's Spring Benefit for Hillside Food
Pantry.
"At PotashCorp, we believe that access to healthy and
nutritious food is key to the development and strength of
every community," explained Heimann. "We wanted to partner
with the Hillside Food Pantry to increase both its space
and capacity to make more food available to those in
need."
According to Maiya Lueptow, Director of Hillside Food
Pantry, the donation could not have come at a better
time.
"We receive so much donated food from so many people,
groups and organizations, and we need a better place to
collect and store it all," Lueptow explained. "Right now we
have to put all of the overflow across the parking lot in
the church. We are very grateful to PotashCorp for the help
it has given to our organization and the hundreds of
families who rely on the Food Pantry for assistance."
Hillside Food Pantry is an affiliate of the Greater Chicago
Food Depository, Chicago's food bank. In June, Hillside
served 2,270 families totaling over 8,100 people. On
average, Hillside supports the food and nutrition needs of
500 families per week.
"The food needs of the unemployed, underemployed and our
area families are real. PotashCorp's investment means more
than added capacity. It means more help to those who need
it most," explained Faith Albano, Hillside's Food Rescue
and Distribution Coordinator.
