Press Ganey Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:PGND) assembled executives of pediatric hospitals and inpatient units from across the country at the Press Ganey 2016 Children’s Hospital Executive Summit earlier this week to explore innovative strategies for improving the delivery of patient- and family-centered care.

Industry leaders from organizations including Advocate Children’s Hospital, Children’s National Health System, Texas Children’s Hospital, Nemours Children’s Health System, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Cohen Children’s Medical Center of Northwell Health, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, shared best practices on high priority issues such as safety, reliability, patient experience and caregiver engagement to guide attendees as they develop targeted strategies for reducing suffering in their own pediatric care setting.

Common themes from panel discussions, case studies and presentations included the following.

  • Integration of safety, quality and the patient experience is required to take patient- and family-centered pediatric care to the next level.
  • Connecting the streams of quality requires a strong organizational culture that supports service behaviors focused on patient safety and the journey to Zero Harm.
  • Shifting culture requires strong leadership and engagement from caregivers. Tenets such as respect, communication and accountability will focus caregivers on the goal of treating every patient and every family, reducing avoidable suffering, providing a better experience and creating better outcomes.

“Patients deserve to receive safe, high-quality care delivered in a compassionate and patient-centered manner at every interaction with the care experience,” said Dr. James Merlino, president and CMO of strategic consulting at Press Ganey. “The leaders at this summit have demonstrated that using the organizing principles of High Reliability to improve the safety, quality and service of care, coupled with a strong culture, will advance the delivery of care in the pediatric setting.”

This summit is part of Press Ganey’s Executive Summit Series, an event program dedicated to agenda-setting, executive-level issues. The summits provide an intimate setting for leaders across the care continuum to connect and collaborate with one another. During interactive panel discussions and presentations, Press Ganey experts and industry innovators facilitate dialogue around focused issues related to specific care settings, functions or market-driven initiatives.
