Hannover Messe 2016: Prysmian Group at the Integrated Energy Plaza

  • Interactive model illustrates the contribution being made by the Prysmian Group to the successful implementation of the energy transition

Hanover, April 2016 - For Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, this year's Hanover Fair is dedicated to the expansion of Germany's electricity grid. As part of the Integrated Energy Plaza, Prysmian Group is presenting potential solutions for the energy system of the future. Visitors to the trade fair can use an interactive model to learn all about the use of Prysmian technology in the integration of renewable energies into the nationwide energy grid. In a keynote speech, Werner Manthey, Director Field Sales for Germany at Prysmian Group, spells out how the company is playing an active role in shaping the energy transition. (Hall 27, Stand L24)

Experts from Prysmian Group use an interactive model to provide a graphic explanation of the way Prysmian technologies are actually used in the Germany-wide energy grid. As the basis for modern, high-performance transmission and distribution networks, they enable stable network operation and reliable electricity supply. It centres on low, medium and high-voltage cabling for energy distribution from power stations to households, as well as cables for connecting offshore wind parks to the national grid.

Werner Manthey explains: 'We want to use our interactive model to show visitors to the fair that Prysmian Group is exceptionally well equipped to contribute to the energy transition. Our innovative cable solutions enable us to provide effective support on all levels in the process of feeding renewable energy into the German electricity grid. For instance, intelligent monitoring and data transfer systems enable continuous observation of the network to ensure its smooth operation.'

Besides the interactive model, Prysmian Group is also presenting the latest cable solutions for use within the energy network, with particular emphasis on innovations in the field of high-voltage DC transmission. 'These solutions are used for applications such as cable connections for wind parks in the North Sea, most of which have been realised by Prysmian Group. These include the HelWin1 offshore project, which entered operation in 2015 with a capacity of 576 megawatts, and the BorWin3 with 900 megawatts, which has a project completion date scheduled for 2019,' says Werner Manthey.

In a keynote speech entitled 'Cables - Lifelines in the Smart Energy Network', Werner Manthey focused on connecting of offshore wind parks with Germany's high-voltage grid. He also described the contribution being made by the company to successfully shaping the energy transition.
