Veolia Water Technologies’ widely dispersed network created application performance problems for the company. Business-critical applications like ERP were delivered from the data center to global sites with patchy application performance, especially in Australia and Malaysia. Round-trip application delays on these routes impacted how well the apps worked locally. Opening the ERP app locally in Paris would take around three seconds, but in Australia it took about ten times longer. But solving the problems was challenging because it was difficult to get an end-to-end view of the network due to the involvement of different application and service providers.
“To accelerate and prioritize the delivery of mission-critical applications to all our branch sites, we deployed Riverbed SteelHead across our entire network,” said Nicolas Stab, Performance Manager, Veolia Water Technologies. “Before the SteelHead deployment, a CRM tool in Malaysia took around 47 seconds to open. After the SteelHead appliances were in place, the time to open the app was reduced to around six seconds – an improvement of more than 80%.”
