• Market entry is another step in RWE's organic growth strategy

  • Market share of 10-15% targeted for upcoming years

At the beginning of July, RWE's Hungarian subsidiary ELMÜ- ÉMÁSZ entered the Hungarian gas market. This step became attractive due to fundamental changes in the Hungarian gas industry. ELMU-ÉMÁSZ intends to achieve a market share of 10-15% in the upcoming years in the gas market among small and large industrial customers.

RWE Hungaria already covers the entire value chain in the electricity business, from production through the operation of the distribution system to supply to customers. In 2014, RWE sold its minority share in FÖGÁZ, a Budapest-based gas supplier.

'We believe that the re-entry into the Hungarian market for natural gas supply to business customers is a very positive step for RWE. We support this step with our expertise as one of the largest gas providers in Central and Eastern European and the experience we gained over several decades.', explains Peter Terium, CEO of RWE AG.

Marie-Theres Thiell, CEO at RWE Hungaria and Managing Director at RWE East adds: 'It is a strong competitive advantage that ELMU-ÉMÁSZ, as an electricity provider, already has close business relations with small and large industrial customers.' She explains further that ELMU-ÉMÁSZ intends to make its new branch even more attractive by introducing additional products and services in the near future.
