Sacyr Concesiones will manage the road for a period of 25 years.

Colombia's National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) has awarded a 100% Sacyr consortium a $275 million contract to repair, improve and operate a 202 kilometer section of Corridor 5 between Puerta de Hierro - Palmar de Varela - Carreto - Cruz del Viso.

Sacyr Concesiones will manage the road for a period of 25 years. This new project gives Sacyr Concesiones the opportunity to enter a new market and enhances its presence in Latin America, where it already has eight assets (a highway in Peru as well as six highways and a hospital in Chile). Sacyr Construcción also has a major project in process in Colombia after recently winning a contract to build the cable-stayed "Pumarejo" bridge over the Magdalena River in Barranquilla, at 2.28 km the longest bridge in Colombia and the country's largest public work with an investment of 223 million euros. In addition, Sacyr is responsible for the construction of two sections of highway: one from Cali to Buenaventura for 103 million euros and the road between the towns of Málaga and Los Curos in the department of Santander for 31.5 million euros.

The road is divided into two sections. Section 1 is a 170 km stretch from Puerta de Hierro to Palmar de Varela which Sacyr will repair, operate and maintain along with the construction of the Puerta de Hierro intersection and the Carmen de Bolívar bypass that will enhance the road connection between the interior of the country and port towns in the Caribbean.

The 25 km Section 2 runs between Carreto and Cruz del Viso and also includes the repair, operation and maintenance of the road and the construction of the Carreto intersection that connects Sections 1 and 2. This section will improve the connection between western Colombia and the Atlantic coast.

The project also includes the construction of the Puerta del Hierro and Cruz del Viso intersections and the operation and maintenance of both existing bridges and the new "Pumarejo" construction.
