SAFRAN : Spotlight on women at Safran: Fabienne Lacorre and Aurore Ferrant, win 2014 Women in Industry awards

Fabienne Lacorre, Senior Vice President for Engineering at Snecma (Safran), and Aurore Ferrant, Rocket Motor Test and Integration Department Manager at Herakles (Safran) won awards yesterday in the 2014 Women in Industry awards organized by the French business magazine L'Usine Nouvelle. Ms. Lacorre won the R&D Woman award, while Ms. Ferrant was named Most Promising Newcomer.

The R&D Woman award recognizes "a women R&D executive, in charge of a design department or a laboratory, and responsible for the filing of at least one significant patent for industry development." The Most Promising Newcomer award recognizes "a women at the start of her career exercising exceptional responsibilities, recognized by her peers and by her company's management."

Fabienne Lacorre, 2014 R&D Woman award Since 2010, Fabienne Lacorre has stood out by her deep investment in the development of the new-generation LEAP aircraft engine, designed and developed by CFM, a 50/50 joint company between Snecma and GE. She has been involved in both research aspects, especially the development of the 3D woven composites used on the fan blades to significantly reduce weight, and in development of the engine itself. The LEAP will succeed the CFM56, the world's best-selling aircraft engine. It will reduce fuel consumption by 15% versus the current generation of CFM engines, and has already recorded more than 7,500 orders.

After earning her engineering degree in fluid mechanics at ENSEEIHT, _ Fabienne Lacorre, 51, started her career with Snecma in 1987 as a design engineer. She was in charge of turbine design for commercial engines from 1990 to 1998, then promoted to head of the turbine department from 1998 to 2001, before extending her scope of expertise to cover the complete engine. She was named head of Snecma's Propulsion Systems division in 2005, then head of Commercial Engine Product Strategy in 2008. In 2010 she was named chief engineer for LEAP engines, making a significant contribution to this engine's initial development. In 2014, she was promoted to her current position as Senior Vice President, Engineering. Fabienne Lacorre holds the rank of Knight in the French National Order of Merit, and is a corresponding member of the Academy of Air and Space.

Aurore Ferrant, Most Promising Newcomer award
Aurore Ferrant, a 26 year young engineer, already boasts an accelerated academic and career path.

After receiving her baccalaureate at 14, she then earned an engineering degree from the Ecole Supérieure d'Aéronautique, majoring in aerodynamics and propulsion. She was only 20 when she joined Herakles in 2008. Aurore started her career as an advanced propulsion project designer, with designs and calculations for the upper stages on interceptor missiles. She was then named head of a military R&D project in 2009, working on the development of systems she had designed. In 2010 she took a 9-month Safran international training course on management, finance and strategy (Management Development Program at Safran University). Since 2012 she has been in charge of a seven-person team, managing a budget of several million euros as head of the rocket motor design and testing department. She oversees the preparation of solid rocket motor tests for both military and space markets, working with designers and test centers and overseeing pre- and post-firing coordination.
