Chair for "big data: methods and tools for a sustainable habitat"

Saint-Gobain and Mines Nancy establish a chair for "big data: methods and tools for a sustainable habitat" Saint-Gobain and Mines Nancy have announced the creation of a three-year chair for research and teaching in the field of big data through sponsorship from the Mines Nancy Foundation.

The chair for "big data: methods and tools for a sustainable habitat" aims to study the potential of new solutions for analyzing big data, especially open-source information. The focus will largely be on applying these solutions to building sciences and sustainable habitat, with a view to using data to understand and improve comfort criteria (visual, acoustic, thermal and air quality) while delivering energy savings.

The chair will be based on classes and more advanced study in the field and will tie in with projects proposed and monitored by Saint-Gobain, as well as the development of student internships. It will also cover PhD studies and the organization of seminars and conferences.

Saint-Gobain - the world leader in the habitat and construction markets - has joined forces with Mines Nancy to set up a chair that will reinforce their established partnership to support training for engineers and researchers in the field of big data and sustainable habitat. The new joint initiative will promote multidisciplinary, cross- functional research in these fields with the help of two Mines Nancy laboratories: Institut Élie Cartan de Lorraine (IECL) and Laboratoire lorrain de Recherche en Informatique et ses Applications (LORIA).

Since its inception in 1919, Ecole des Mines de Nancy, a graduate school of engineering, has trained engineers through programs that offer a combination of wide-ranging technical expertise and interpersonal skills. The school has nearly 800 students a year, along with more than 250 teaching staff, researchers and other personnel.
