Sberbank Rossii : participates in implementation of unique energy project

June 21, 2017, Moscow - Sberbank participated in the implementation of a project for comprehensive modernisation of Kazan CHP-3 (combined heat and power plant). The most powerful gas turbine power unit in Russia was launched as part of the project.

The project of comprehensive modernisation of the plant cost around 14 billion roubles. Sberbank CIB in cooperation with the Bank Tatarstan division of the Volgo-Vyatsky Bank of Sberbank issued a 9.65 billion rouble loan for 10 years in 2014.

The new block of gas turbine power unit of Kazan CHP-3 operated by TGK 16 was built using the largest and most effective gas turbine in the world (9HA.01), which has a capacity of 405.6 megawatts. The turbine was manufactured by General Electric.

'TGK 16's unique project was carried out thanks to the experience and reliability of TAIF Group within the shortest term possible despite challenging economic conditions. The new energy block of Kazan CHP -3 is unmatched in terms of power and efficiency parameters both in Russia and abroad. Sberbank CIB participated in this project by granting a loan to TGK 16. We would like to congratulate TAIF Group and TGK 16 on the successful launch of the energy block,' said Vadim Logofet, Managing Director, Head of the Energy Division of Sberbank CIB.

'The launch of the gas turbine power unit is the final stage of the comprehensive modernisation of Kazan CHP-3. After launching the gas turbine, the plant's power capacity doubled, and the electricity generation will triple in the combined cycle. The plant will receive an additional thermal power reserve to provide consumers, including the population, with thermal energy at the lowest prices in the Republic of Tatarstan. The reconstruction of the plant is an example of close cooperation between all of Tatarstan's electric energy entities, thanks to which the Republic is transforming from an energy importer into a self-sufficient power generating region,' said CEO of TAIF Albert Shigabutdinov.
